バリンとは

バリンは、側鎖にイソプロピル基を持つ、アミノ酸の一種で、正式名称は2-アミノイソ吉草酸とも呼ばれます。バリンの名前の由来は、吉草根(英語名：Valerian)です。示性式はHO₂CCH(NH₂)CH(CH₃)₂になります。ロイシンやイソロイシン同様に、疎水性アミノ酸、非極性アミノ酸類に分類される製品です。白色の結晶性の粉末で、ウニのような味で、最初は甘みを感じるが、後から苦味を感じる性質がある。食品添加物としても使用されており、栄養補助食品としてBCAAの名称で売られている、複合アミノ酸系栄養剤の1つです。必須アミノ酸のため、食品から摂取が必要なアミノ酸でもあります。

バリンは化粧品成分ですが、医薬部外品として使用する場合L-バリンと表示されます。
